Inland prooves hot, back toward the beach

Past: So I had been told that temperature drastically rises as you move 10 or even 5 miles away from the coast… guess what it is true. Our week inland at SDSU was productive but overall it has been deemed lame. Lame for these reasons. 1) As I said, its hotter, there is no coastal breeze, and it is slightly more humid. 2) Its basically like in the suburbs around the campus. 3) Although getting into a routine was moderately productive for the week, it seemed bitter to be waking up and doing the same thing in the morning, afternoon and night. For four straight days we bought breakfast at Albertson’s (grocery store), followed by 6-8 hours at the SDSU library which is really cool, then to 24 fitness for night work out till around midnight, then fast food dinner because 24 grocery stores don’t exist here.

Present: Well as of now, this is our 3rd night sticking it out in Ocean Beach (OB). It is my favorite community I have seen thus far. It is similar in feel to Pacific Beach but picks up many cool points in the facts that it doesn’t have all the crazy commercial chains around the beach, doesn’t have anywhere near the tourists and douchey guys, and it feels more diverse. It is also closer to the downtown which I am not sure which is a plus or a negative. OB is on the south side of Mission Bay as to where PB is on the north side.

Ocean Beach has all the standard things we look for in a vannomad community. 24 Fitness, coffee shops, library, and grocery stores. Big announcement also for a Van Nomads San Diego first, a 24hr grocery store has been located. It is Ralph’s and it is very close to our gym (easy walking distance). For anyone not in the know, Ralph’s is just a rebranded Kroger and our Kroger cards work here too. Woohoo for not having to get more cards and for not throwing away my Kroger card when I almost did. OB also has the longest pier on the US Pacific coast. I walked down it today and saw the sunset, very relaxing. It is a surfer community that hasn’t been swept up in the present day city crap like many other parts of the city. We also both applied for a job at a comic book store that was hiring and is only two blocks from the beach. Pretty much a retail dream job.

Monday we had our first legitimate going out to eat a meal since we have been in San Diego. Went to an awesome Japanese restaurant called Sapporo which was located on the same street as the comic book store. It was a great atmosphere, delicious, and very affordable. It was a transcendent experience after lofting about on foot for 45min being uncertain where to partake in the ceremonial dinning experience.

Future: Not sure what is ahead. The realization that we have 10 days before we head out for our respective weddings draws near. Congratulations to our friends Handley and Zuber who are both to be wed (not to each other but to their individual ladies) on August 1st and 2nd. Possible camping or concerts in the works for this weekend. Hopefully some library time tomorrow. I’m going to make like a hare and bounce. As the rabbit says “That’s all folks.”
